OBERLIN — The Oberlin Phoenix rallied from a 15-point first half deficit to defeat Clearview 65-60 on Senior Night at Oberlin High School. The win, coupled with a Keystone home win over Columbia, gave the Phoenix a share of the Lorain County League championship.

Clearview got started quickly, leading 15-11 after a quarter. A strong start to the second quarter saw Clearview get its biggest lead of the night at 30-15, but the Phoenix closed the first half on an 8-1 run to pull within 8 at 31-23 at halftime.

The second half belonged to the Phoenix. Oberlin posted 21 points in the third and fourth quarters tonight. Clearview struggled in the third quarter, scoring only nine points and turning the ball over multiple times. Clearview trailed 44-40 after three and couldn’t get the stop they needed down the stretch to turn the game around.

With Keystone’s win over Columbia, the Lorain County League’s first championship is split three ways. Keystone, Columbia and Oberlin all finish as co-champions, with Firelands and Clearview finishing one game back.

Giles Harrell and Aaron Hopkins had 18 points each to lead the Phoneix. All five Clearview starters were in double figures tonight, led by Chase Christensen who also had 18 points.

Clearview drops to 12-9 overall and 9-5 in the Lorain County League. The Clippers will open sectional tournament play on Tuesday night, when they travel to Cloverleaf. Tip is scheduled at 7 p.m.

Oberlin swept the evening, winning close matchups all evening. The JV game went to the Phoenix, 50-44. The Freshmen game also went to the Phoenix, 40-35.
