The Phoenix wrestlers concluded the regular season at the Patriot Athletic Conference Tournament this past weekend at Brookside High School. The Bouchonville twins were the only participants for the Phoenix as the remaining teammates were out of the lineup for various reasons.
Reggie, wrestling at 126 pounds, opened the tournament with a quick 1:03 first pin over Toth (Keystone). He then met the number two seed Brenden Jackson (Brookside) and lost by a pin in the second period. In his first wrestle back match in the consolation bracket, he was cruising to a major decision with a 11-2 lead over Nathan Jackson (Black River) when he made a mental error and stopped wrestling aggressively and was reversed and pinned with 30 seconds remaining in the match.
Robert, in one weight class higher at 132 pounds, lost by pin to Parker Watson (Lutheran West) the number four seed and eventual champion in the first round. He then strung together two consecutive decisions, 6-2 over Zacharyasz (Black River) and 6-1 over Nesbaum (Brookside) in the consolation bracket. His quest for a spot in the finals stalled on match short when he lost 9-0 to Wilfong (Wellington).
The post season begins in three weeks with the Sectional Wrestling Tournament. The tournament will be a one day event on Saturday, February 25 at Independence High School starting at 10:00 am. Last season, Sam Wilson and Robert Bouchonville were the two Phoenix that qualified for the District Tournament.
