What is your favorite sports memory from Oberlin?
I have a few: Winning the conference title at 112 pounds with a pin over the Black River kid my sophomore year. Hitting an RBI walk off single my freshman year to break the losing streak that had gone on for a good number of years. Playing on the soccer team with some of my good friends and competing each year for the conference title against Wellington, Buckeye and Columbia, as well as scoring from 45 yards out on a free kick against Columbia in the conference championship.
If you could give any advice to current high school students what would your tell them?
Find what motivates you and use it as fuel to get better every day. Building a strong work ethic in high school is one of the most valuable things you can do. People can teach you material in the classroom and they can teach you technique on the sports field, but teaching someone how to work hard is not an easy task. If you can be self-motivated and wake up each day trying to be better than you were the day before, one day you’ll look back and see the incredible distance that you have come and the bright future that has opened up to you.
Since graduation from Oberlin High, I attended Oberlin College, graduating in 2015. Then I went on to the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, graduating in 2019, and was promoted to Captain in the United States Army Medical Corps. I now am training as an Orthopaedic Surgeon at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI.
