Day two of the district meet concluded today with a very impressive showing from the Phoenix boys and girls. The goal today was to qualify as many people as we could to be regional championship next week. To qualify for regionals you must finish in the top four. For the girls Asta Rustad was the only individual winner. She won the 3200m run in a time 11:43.72. She also finished second in the 1600 running 5:22.97. Joining Asta in the 1600 and 3200 was Jenea Johnson who ran two life time best on the day. Jenea ran 6:17.12 in the 1600 which is an eight second best and she she ran 13:43.44 in the 3200m run which is an eleven second best.
The relay team of Angie Clement, Nya Grady-Norman, Liz Santiago and Kaylianna Barbee finished third in the 4×100 (53.10) and 4×200 (1:52.21). Both times are season best. The boys 4×200 fell just short of a regional bid finishing fifth with a season best time of 1:33.22.
Next week the goals are the same finish in the top four and move on to the state meet. Only one individual advanced to the state meet last year. We have a grate chance at getting more than that this year.
