Oberlin senior Asta Rustad breezed through a first place finish with a PR 18:38. Rustad was named MVP of the meet and took over first roughly a half-mile in.
“It was a fun course,” Rustad said. “I try to keep my pace when I’m out ahead, but it’s hard. When I realize that no one is behind me, it’s tough. I wish the competition was a little bit better, so I can get a better time moving forward.”
Rustad even had something weighing heavy on her mind before the race, but it didn’t deter her.
“I had a math test right before I came here,” she said while smiling. “And the whole time sitting in the bus I kept going through in my mind which ones I got right and wrong.
